Automatic process control is a principle part of industrial progress during what is now termed as ‘Second Industrial Revolution’. The industrial revolution witnessed the development of process industries when machines were substituted for human physical power. The early production processes were natural scale-up versions of the traditional manual practices. They were designed as a batch process and later replaced by continuous processes which resulted in economic and technological benefits. There has been an increasing trend over the years towards larger and more complex plants and processes to take advantage of the economies of scale and technological developments. This book “Automatic Process Control” identifies and evaluates the possibilities of intelligent development of the field. The important broad concepts are presented in a general description of the nature of control. These concepts are applied to the solution of typical process control problems in an elucidation of available techniques. The developments that can treat control problems are dynamic characterization of processes from normal operating methods of attacking problems involving nonlinear systems and proved techniques for sampled data systems. While understanding the long-term perspectives of the topics, the book makes an effort in highlighting their impact as a modern tool for the growth of the discipline.
Trinidad Warfield attained his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Technological University, Idaho. He is actively engaged in the researches focused on dynamical systems, feedback modification and control systems engineering. He serves as a Visiting Professor at Community College, Acre. He has written dozens of articles and research papers on process control systems, system function, control automation and superposition principles. Warfield has also won an ˝Excellence in Graduate Education˝ award for his outstanding contribution towards the student community especially in the undergraduate programs.
